What Are Habits? - A Definition

What is a habit? There are many definitions, but this is a very short one of how a habit is a mental, emotional, or physical behavior pattern acquired through frequent repetition and continued practice.

A habit is simply repeating the same behavior until it has become automatic. An automatic behavior pattern is one that we have learned and controlled through repetition.

Since habits are acquired behavior patterns through continued repetition, we must learn to manage and control our own habitual behavior so that it does not divert us from our goals. Much of the conflict we experience is caused by the fact that we really want to change our lives. We want things to be different, but we just can't seem to make the change. We set goals, we make amends, and we even make the changes, but much time goes by and we forget all about our goals. Then, before we know it, another year has gone by and we are where we started.


To help us gain control of our lives, we must start now, knowing that we have allowed ourselves to drift far off course. Now is the time to learn new habits and control our habits. Now is the time to reverse our course and get back on the road to achieving our goals. Now is the time to start self-management, personal awareness, and personal conditioning.


What this means is that there is a lot of information on the web available about all of these things. With the internet at our ends, there is information on how to schedule our lives. With the internet, we can learn about new health care systems, aid programs, food pyramidNone of these is really a bad thing. All of them are great things because they allow us to explore and make new choices and decisions that we are comfortable with.


The big problem is that so many of us by misdirected by a bad habit and get stuck in a negative cycle. We fall into the habit and we love it. We become addicted to a forthcoming lever. Just roll the ball up the path. Now we have a habit that will lead us off we road. Every day we get up, our priorities are centered around making money, and taking care of our responsibilities. You are so busy, getting up, and going to a job that you never time to learn to manage your own schedule or think about what you are doing and when it affects your goals. What happens to the rest of your life? The ball gets rolling and we stop smelling the roses, you know the term.

We think about the house we want, and the car we wish to get. Now we have thought about what we want, and after a while it gets out of our control. The more we think about it, the more we push it away from us as well.


We can learn not to do this. We can learn not to think of our goals only of what we want. We can learn how to manage our time and make sure we will get to the goals. We go back to the original lesson. Now, you can say that I lost my job, or my wife left me, or my money runs out. Then, we have a downer already, remember?


We don't see ourselves as a victim. We remember how we put ourselves there. Once our power is fully over, then we can get it over too. We start to see our power where it has never been before. Our thoughts become our feelings, even our attitudes. We become what we wish to become. We learn what we can do, we learn what we cannot. Our minds are retrained, not with some new behavioral change but with immersion into thectrinal way of thinking.


We can do this! We can create new habits that channel our lives in the direction we want to go. We will be traveling down path that was missing a button. A hole in our soul has dropped out any connection with our real self. Now the question we must ask is "What button"? We now remember that we had a pattern in there and we soon will be back and rediscovering ourselves.


The question we must ask as we begin to develop the new habits is what will we accomplish today? Will we have the same things today that we have had yesterday? Is our way of life because our minds have stifled us? Is our our way of thinking because we used to think differently?


We begin to carry out what we want in our new routine. First, we learn how to look at ourselves in a new way. We start to look at our habits.


We learned most of our habits from family and friends. It may have been a bad habit.
