Cadillac SRX - The Alternative to the Larger Escalade

Cadillac has designed an alternative to the Escalade in the SRX. The SRX is the perfect alternative to the Escalade in that it offers a less mainstream look and is a bit lower to the ground than the Escalade which gives it a whole new look and may be better suited to those who are not movie stars of music artists. The SRX features new edgy details surrounding the headlights and grill. While the SRX may resemble the Escalade in some respects, due to its lower sitting body, it provides a more car like feel when you're seated behind the wheel.

Cadillac has installed a suspension system that provides a much smoother ride than you might expect in a car of this size. It glides over the freeway and doesn't jolt you out of your seat when you come upon a pothole while driving in the city. The suspension system allows for a very smooth and sometimes unnoticeable ride over rough roads.

Unlike many other cars in the same class that offer diesel variations of their engines, the SRX is purely petrol powered. The standard base engine is a 261PS 3.6 liter V6 with a five speed automatic transmission which you can either upgrade by choosing the Elegance or Sport Luxury enhancements. The Sport Luxury version of the engine is a 330PS 4.6 liter V8 with a six speed automatic transmission. This version of the engine is able to produce quite a bit of power and can go from 0-60 in an impressive 7.4 seconds and tops out at 140mph.

Cadillac has developed one of the best engines with the Northstar V8. It provides the driver with an abundance of low-end torque and the power to make the SRX feel sporty. Both versions of the engine come equipped with variable valve timing and uses an electronic throttle.

The braking system installed in the SRX benefits from the engine being a close ratio to the wheels. This allows for excellent braking under both normal and severe conditions. The brake discs on the SRX measure 11 inch in diameter and are further enforced by an anti-lock braking system that goes almost unnoticed when used. Cadillac also offers an additional safety feature with their OnStar system which alerts emergency services with a unique LED light. The braking system also features an electronic stability system which is designed to automatically lift control back to the driver if the SRX is in danger.

The braking system installed in the SRX features uneven tire wear as well as debris and dirt collection can be cleared with the engine being revved slightly. Cadillac also offers an optional Driving dynamics package to add more safety features to the vehicle. This system monitors the way the SRX is driving and adjusts the engine, brakes, and throttle in order to allow the driver to more closely follow the road. The overall performance of the brakes and acceleration can be influenced by Power-steering assist and the Active Fuel Management system.

In order to increase the driver and passenger safety features Cadillac developed a heated steering wheel, a driver and passenger airbag, seatbelts with pretensioners, and four pre-tensioned seat belts. Safety features are not Included in the SRX, but built in with options at only an additional cost.

Over the years Cadillac has established a reputation for safety and convenience. The SRX maintains this reputation with all of its engine, suspension, and safety features. Upgrades offered for the 2010 Cadillac SRX make it a Top Safety Pick by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. Unlike many cars in the same class that lack function such as airbags and anti-lock brakes, the SRX has been proven time and time again to be a safe vehicle for all of its passengers.
